Native American Basketry

Elliott Rain Abbey
Elliott Rain Abbey, member of the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana will join us on Saturday evening.  Abbey, a local artist, is actively involved in preserving tribal traditions through his baskets woven from longleaf pine needles.  The longleaf pine ecosystem has long been a source of shelter, medicinal value and used for baskets among the Coushatta and Alabama Tribes.  Abbey will join us to share his expertise in basketry and to discuss the importance of preserving longleaf pine as a means of preserving local cultural traditions.  You might even find a few holiday gifts on his table during the Saturday evening social!
